7-Zip sucks

It’s got a kickass compression algorithm, no doubt about that.

Today I realized that just because it’s an open source freeware hippie project, it justifies them to have a big fat button named “Background” in the extracting dialog. The button should of course make the window reside in the tray bar. But NO – no matter how many times you push it - nothing happens, nada! I want to do this every time I extract something.

They’ve had this dummy button in their latest stable version for several months. We’re dealing with a bunch of really dedicated good programmers, but apparently They Can’t Fix This Annoyance, and who blames them? They’re holy open sourcerers. I say fix it!

 Get it now - http://www.7-zip.org

Edit: After this article I was told that the button is used to toggle the working thread priority. But hey; that's no good GUI design.

The button changes the program's priority from "Normal" to "Idle" and back. The title bar will change telling you its operating in the "background" (idle) or operating in the "foreground" (Normal). Regardless, its a poorly designed program with a nearly incomprehensible command line. It's pretty useless if you're trying to do anything complex from the command line, and frequently dies with internal errors due to exclusion rules.

Thanks for clearing that out to me. I can only agree with your other complaints. Let's hope a 7-zip developer reads this ^^

Ive edited the article also...
